We are suffering greatly from the heat, the thermometer is generally 86 degrees in the shade. The
cholera still continues in some localities. The deaths at Jassy during 40 days amounted to 12,000, the
number is now under 40 per day. My brother has taken a very nice house with a garden in the adjoining
Turkish Quarter which will serve for a summer residence... this privilege has lately been granted by the
Sultan on account of the demand and scarcity of houses since the late fire.
