aChancellorEmeritusinOctober2008. Dr.Garneau'sfirstcareerwasinthe
Canadian Navy. In 1983, hewasselectedasan astronautandbecamethe
firstCanadiantoflyinspacein 1984. Heflewontwoothermissionsbefore
becomingtheexecutivevice-presidentandthenpresidentoftheCanadian
SpaceAgency. Dr. GarneaubecameanofficeroftheOrderofCanada in 1984
andwaspromotedtotherankofcompanion in2003. Hewaselectedasthe
MemberofParliamentforWestmount-Ville Marie in October2008.

RoseannO'ReillyRuntebecame PresidentandVice-ChancellorofCarleton
UniversityonJuly1,2008. Dr. Runtegraduatedwitha B.A. summacumlaude
in FrenchfromtheStateUniversityofNewYorkandobtainedherM.A. and
Ph.D.fromthe UniversityofKansas. Shehaspreviouslyservedaspresidentof
