BIOSKETCH
Kathryn Andersen, Senior Research and Evaluation Advisor/ Manager (Ipas US)
MS in Biostatistics, Ph.D. in Maternal and Child Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Andersen provides technical support to the Research and Evaluation Unit, including identifying and implementing
appropriate research methodologies (both quantitative and qualitative); supporting data management and statistical
analysis; and participating in analysis and dissemination of findings. Her focus countries include India, Myanmar, and
Nepal. Dr. Andersen’s professional interests include understanding and reducing abortion-related maternal mortality;
eliminating violence against women; improving reproductive health care access and understanding associated costs; and
translating research into policy and practice. Her work has been published in Violence against Women, Women and
Health, Studies in Family Planning, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Contraception and the
American Journal of Preventive Medicine, among others. Dr. Andersen also serves as an adjunct assistant professor in the
Department of Maternal and Child Health at the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill and as Consulting Editor for Research Methods for the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health.
