The Big Day
Nancy Petersheim stretched and yawned lazily under the woolen comforter she shared with her younger sister Susie. She snuggled cozily under its warmth and 
burrowed deeper into the folds. It was too early to get up, the room was still dark, and Jeremiah the rooster wasn't crowing yet.
Usually she slept until she heard the familiar chug­chug when Daed (Dad) started the diesel power unit for milking, and then she would think about getting up. Until 
Mamm (Mom) called her, she would revel in the soft luxury of her comfortable bed.
Down the hall, the boys' door opened, and hurried footsteps passed the girls' room. "Wake up, you Schlofkopps (sleepyheads)," Steven called. "Today's the big 
day!"
